Junior School Council

Keilor PS has an active Junior School Council. Its purpose is to give the children at our school the opportunity to be involved in decision making across the school. JSC is made up of students elected by the children in their grade. Years 3/4 have one representative and years 5/6 have a boy and girl representative. Our JSC representatives will often speak to the classes from Year Prep to 2 for their input or to let them know what’s coming up.

Our School Captains and Vice Captains are also elected by their peers, however those nominated need to give an oral presentation to the teachers in 5/6 who make the decision about who will be the school’s representatives. They are an important component of the JSC as they meet regularly with the school Principal to seek her permission for the events and activities they wish to conduct.

JSC is not only involved in fundraising events for our school and other community organisations such as Juvenile Diabetes, they also bring ideas and concerns to be discussed. An example of this is when a JSC representative brought up the need for blinds in our new portables as they were heating up too quickly in summer, it was agreed upon. The School Captains took this to the Principal who then took this to the Buildings and Grounds Sub-Committee. They approved these and organised for them to by installed over the holidays.

The JSC is a committed group of individuals who show great initiative and commitment. We are very proud of their contributions to our school.
